Chalkboard activities - Westercommon - Community centres and Newsletters

The centre will be focussing over the next few weeks on activities in the Hamiltonhill area, namely helping out a new community association for Westercommon - a disused mediaeval common land which has been allowed to become populated by Japanese knotweed, burnt out tyres and other rubbish. Currently the common is unused and disused - the association 'Friends of Westercommon' wants to see the area become a publicly used park, and wants to see some council funds spent on this.We will also be looking at kickstarting the campaign to re-open the Halls at Raglan street (a popular community centre that was closed several times against the wishes of the community and successfully reopened by community pressure twice, before they were shut again and given over the GHA after stock transfer) and will be continuing to provide a forum for those groups that are already using the centre, such as a local women's health group, the Cedar Tenants Association, and a newly started community newspaper which is soon to publish its first issue.
